The 03 error appears on the LG washing machine display when the machine is unable to drain within a certain period of time. This is usually 5 minutes, but in some models, it can go as long as 7-8 minutes. During this entire period of time, the washer-dryer constantly tries to drain the water. If it still fails to drain, an error is generated.

The error can be caused by the following:

  1. A malfunction in the electric controller.
  2. The LG washer-dryer drain filter and volute are clogged.
  3. The washer-dryer drain hose is kinked, clogged, or worn.
  4. Blockage in the drainage pipe.
  5. Failure of the washer-dryer drain pump.
  6. The water level sensor in the washing machine is defective.
  7. The control box on the LG washing machine has malfunctioned.

The washing machine does not empty the water and it is not heard as the drain pump works – these characteristics mean that the reason is in the drain pump (pump). And it is more likely that the pump motor is broken. If you can hear the pump humming, but there is no draining and the 03 error is displayed, the impeller is probably defective. The most frequent reason for a drain pump failure is clogging of the pump by various debris, accumulated while using an LG washing machine. Debris gets on the impeller and can cause an error if the drain filter, which is fitted to protect the pump, is clogged. Or if the debris is too fine. In some cases, it is sufficient to clean the pump of dirt, lint, and hair. In some cases, the impeller or the entire pump will have to be replaced.

Repairs are best carried out by a service technician, as the pump must be removed for diagnosis and cleaning:

The first thing the technician will do is to de-energize the washing machine.

Next, he will drain the remaining water, remove the powder container and disconnect the drain hose and water intake hose.

Most machines are not fitted with a bottom and the parts underneath are freely accessible. Therefore, the appliance is turned onto its side, loosening the clamps and removing the tubes to the pump. Remove the pump by turning it 180 degrees to the left.

Inspect the drain pump and impeller and clean any debris from them. If necessary, test the pump with a multimeter. Replace damaged parts with new ones.

If the error is due to the water level sensor, the sensor stops signaling the water level in the tank to the electronic board and, as a consequence, the drain does not start. The washer-dryer assumes that there is no water in the tank. Please note that this error does not always require the entire unit to be replaced.

If the drain runs intermittently and error 03 (OE) or other error codes are displayed, it is likely that the electronic control unit has malfunctioned. If this is the case, have it repaired by a San Diego service technician. He will check the pins and tracks on the board, re-solder the burnt-out ICs or replace the control module completely.

In any complicated situation where a complete or partial disassembly of the washing machine is required, it is best to contact a washer repair San Diego service center to avoid aggravating the problem.
