Electric oven malfunctions are caused by: short circuits, mechanical damage, and neglect to maintain the appliance. In case of complex oven repair is required, or if it is not possible to sort it out yourself, please contact Poway Appliance Service Center.

The #1 cause is the wiring.

The simplest method of diagnosis is the visual inspection. De-energize the hob by removing the mains cable plug from the socket. Move the oven away from the wall. Unscrew the screws located around the perimeter of the rear enclosure wall to remove it. Inspect the wiring harness for damage. Over time, the rubber on the terminals and the braid will deteriorate. Use a multimeter to test the wires to see if they are shorted.

Try tightening the clamps connecting the toggle switch and the thermostat. It is possible that loosening them may have caused a lack of contact. The threaded joints must be tight against the components. If oxidization has occurred, then sand down the damaged areas.

Burning out of one or more wires is another common cause of an oven in the hob not working. In such a case, you should also carry out a stripping operation. Use a wire cutter to cut off the burnt area and then expose the cable by 5-7 mm. Connect it to the terminal using pliers. If the wire is too short, don’t try to make it larger. It is better to just replace it with a new one.

Reason no. 2 – heating element

To check if the electric heater is in good working order, open access to this part. You can do this yourself. Detailed instructions on the location of the component can be found in the instruction manual of the appliance. Using a multimeter, check that there is voltage to the heating element.

Modern electric cookers use different types of electric heaters:

-spiral;

-halogen;

-spiral; -halogen; -continuous.

This depends on the model and manufacturer of the oven. Classic appliances are equipped with two heating elements at once, which are located at the top and bottom. Sometimes the heating element is visible when the oven is opened, which means that nothing needs to be disassembled. If the electric heater turns a deep red colour when the oven is in operation, this is an indication that it is in good working order. The lack of a strong glow and the appearance of black spots are signs that the part is faulty.

If the heating element has burned out, you can immediately replace the second one. The component may cease to function as a result of normal wear and tear if the hob has been actively used. In most cases, the electric heaters will stop working at the same time.

Reason no. 3 – timer

Problems with switching the electric heater on can be caused by a faulty timer. The heater simply fails to receive a signal. Mechanical timer failure is extremely easy to identify – the characteristic “ticking” sound is lost. If you are using an electric hob with a digital timer, the indicator light will start flashing. You can find an explanation of the error codes in the manual.

Reason no. 4 – mode switch

Even budget cookers have at least a few operating modes. A toggle switch is used to switch between them. Failure of the mechanical knob is easy to diagnose: it gets stuck in a particular mode or scrolls along the entire axis.

When the digital toggle switch stops working, a certain indicator light flashes. You can decipher the error by referring to the instruction manual of the appliance.

The control panel is one of the key elements of electric cookers. It is this mechanism that controls the cooking process. Many functions are performed automatically. By using each of the available options competently, the housewife can save time. If the control module malfunctions, the cooker malfunctions. It is not necessary to replace the damaged element. Try repairing the faulty part.
