Why the washing machine shakes and vibrates

In modern life, the washing machine occupies one of the most important places in human life. Remember how you washed 20-30 years ago? Washing usually took almost a whole day. And it’s good if your washing machine had a centrifuge that helped to spin the laundry. Today, washing machines have become much more functional. They have a spin mode, silver ionization, and many different modes for washing, drying, etc.

But, unfortunately, no matter how modern and expensive the washing machines are, they can still fail. One of the signs that the washing machine is not working correctly may be that it shakes. The washing machine starts to vibrate, and walk and she “walks” around the apartment. Consider the most common possible reasons why the washing machine shakes and jumps and how to reduce its vibration.

The main causes of the strong vibration of the washing machine:

– not removed transport bolts in the washing machine
– the washing machine is not evenly installed
– clogged drain filter
– uneven distribution of the laundry in the washing machine drum
– worn bearings
– faulty shock absorber
– damper ring (cuff)

Why is the washing machine vibrating?
A possible reason is that it is installed unevenly in relation to the floor. Check whether the washing machine is level in all planes. To set it level, you need to tighten the legs on which the machine stands with a special key, which is usually included in the washing machine. After you have set it level, you need to tighten the lock nuts in order to fix the legs of the washing machine.

Why does the washing machine jerk and walk?
One of the reasons why the washing machine jerks, vibrates, and shakes may be a clogged drain filter. It is located in the lower right corner of the washing machine.

The drain filter is necessary to retain foreign objects such as coins, buttons, and other small items. If it is dirty, the spin cycle may not work.
To clean the drain filter, open the decorative cover and drain the water from the washing machine through a special hose located next to the filter. Unscrew (or pull out depending on the model of the washing machine) the filter and clean it. It is enough just to remove foreign objects, if any, and rinse them under running water.

Uneven distribution of the laundry in the drum
During washing or spinning, the washing machine may shake, vibrate, or jump due to the uneven distribution of the laundry in the drum. For example, such things as rugs, blankets, etc. absorb water very well. Therefore, experts advise washing such things not one by one, but in pairs with similar ones. For example, add a large towel to the washing machine to the plaid, etc. Unevenly distributed things in the washing machine lead to its overload and breakage of parts.

Worn bearings
Worn bearings can cause not only jumping and jerking of the machine but also extraneous hum. If the bearings are not replaced in time, it will cause the breakage of other components of the washing machine. If it so happened that it was the bearings that caused the jumping and jerking off your pet, then we advise you to contact a trusted service center or washing machine repairmen, which you can find on our site. Because without certain skills and experience in repairing the washing machine you can only harm it.

Faulty shock absorber
Front-loading washing machines use shock absorbers that soften the movement of the mechanisms during spinning. They are attached to the frame (body) and the tank of the washing machine. If the shock absorbers fail, the spin cycle will be very loud. It is important to fix this problem as soon as possible as the vibration can damage other components inside the machine.

To access the dampers, remove the front panel of the machine following the instructions in the user manual. Inspect the shock absorbers for signs of wear, broken parts, or fluid. If the shock absorbers are worn or broken, they will need to be replaced.

Damping ring (collar)
The collar acts as a cushion between the base of the washing machine and the tank. Its purpose is to reduce vibration during the spin cycle of the machine. As with most parts of the washing machine, the damping ring can become unusable over time. Eventually, it can wear so much that the metal base comes into contact with the tank. This will cause severe shaking and vibration of the machine.
To get a good look at the damping ring, remove the front panel of the washing machine following the instructions in the user manual. Inspect the cuffs for wear. You may see shifting or various kinds of damage. If the damping ring is damaged, it must be replaced.
