The temperature of your refrigerator is adjusted via a control panel. The type of control panel largely determines how easily the temperature can be set and how accurately it can be set. The most important document and recommendation is the refrigerator’s manual. If you have no desire to search for it and understand the nuances, call our refrigerator repair service in Poway.
What are the types of control of the refrigerator?
Mechanical control – used in the most inexpensive refrigerators. As a rule, control is not divided into refrigerator and freezer compartments (only if there are two compressors and not one). With the mechanical control, we can only set the temperature approximately, without knowing or understanding the exact temperature. Most often located in the refrigerator compartment in the form of a knob with symbolic graduations without a specific temperature indication.
Electronic – can be push-button or touch-sensitive. Most commonly used in dry coolers with No Frost. If electronic control is used, it is usually possible to regulate the refrigerator compartment and freezer compartment separately. In this case, you can set the temperature more precisely, down to the degree. Refrigerators with electronic control generally have additional automatic temperature settings.
Electronic temperature control, with or without display, can be located inside the refrigerator compartment, outside the compartment behind the door, or in the front of the refrigerator.
More temperature options
In addition to manual temperature control, some modern refrigerators offer the option of quickly setting a specific temperature in the fridge or freezer compartment by pressing a single button on the control panel. This is usually provided by an electronic control panel.
Special temperature settings in modern refrigerators:
– Super freezing. This function means setting the temperature in the freezer compartment at -24°C for a certain period of time. This is necessary to be able to freeze food or large quantities of food instantly. The function must be set for approximately 2 hours before putting the food into the freezer compartment.
– Supercooling. The purpose of this function is almost identical to the first one, only in the refrigerator compartment. If you are planning to load the refrigerator with a large amount of fresh food, set the supercooling function in advance and the temperature in the refrigerator drops to approx. 0 °C. This ensures that the food is chilled as quickly as possible and stays fresh in the refrigerator longer.
– Holiday. This mode is useful when we are away from home for a long time, e.g. on a trip or business trip. You won’t be able to turn off the fridge completely because you’ll usually still have food in the freezer. Therefore, in the Holiday mode, the temperature in the fridge is kept at +15 °C, while the freezer compartment operates as standard. In this way, you save on energy consumption, but the refrigerator is kept at an optimum temperature to avoid unpleasant odors.
These are the most useful and frequently used settings in refrigerators. However, you can also find other settings, e.g. some models allow you to set the freezer compartment to a cold temperature if you don’t require the freezer compartment.
The consequences of an incorrect refrigerator temperature
All the nuances and details of setting and adjusting the temperature of your refrigerator are always described in the refrigerator’s user manual. Don’t be lazy without reading the useful literature, as it will provide you with the basic knowledge and understanding of how to turn the temperature knob or which numbers should illuminate on the control panel display.
